A Bronx Tale

As New York kicks off the month long celebration of fall fashion, it always comes and goes leaving you somewhat fulfilled and satisfied. New York is known for their infamous oodles of noodles of shows compared to the other three fashion capitals. This is good and bad altogether, let me explain. You triumph over the fact that you're one up NYFW by being entirely caught up with all of the shows, then suddenly 20 new shows pop up from thin air. It's frustrating. The upside to this ongoing cycle are the new designers coming into the business. It's always a real treat to see fresh souls breaking through the cracks into the tough industry. The Boy Wonder (a.k.a Wang) had to start from somewhere or "from the bottom". Get it? I'm cool.

By watching all thousands of the New York fashion shows, I've noticed some recurring patterns. Let me break it down. Reeeeeeckkka Reeeeeecccckkka:

Reed Krakoff

1) High boots and knee length skirts gives reason to never shave your legs again. So long Razers!

Derek Lam

2) Frizzy hair. No longer purchasing expensive hair products will leave your wallet plump. Let's face it, beautifully tamed hair was last season.

Rag & Bone

3) As we observe Mini Skirts and Long Jackets exposing the knee high stocking we generally assume working prostitute but if Rag & Bone shows it on the runway, then we must of had it all wrong. Who said mini skirts are only to be worn for clubbing? Add a long magician jacket to the mini skirt look and next thing you know girls will WANT to start wearing pants to the clubs. Wow. The world's balance would finally be restored.

Prabal Gurung

4) The prosthetic boot is what's popping. I WANT THESE.

Jeremy Laing

5) Homeless chic is right up my alleyway. I need no further clarification.

3.1 Phillip Lim

6) The Tuxedo: Professionalism is in the air. Workwear that is not only be worn at work. Bust this out any day of the week and you'll be the cats pyjamas. Trust me. Or don't. I don't know.

Milly

7) Smurf hats are the real deal this season. If you want to be taken seriously, wear one.

The Row

8) The old chinese lady inside me is extremely happy about this.

Now that we are in Milan Fashion week, it goes without saying that I will complete a London Fashion Week update shortly. Enjoy your wednesday.

Until Next Time,

Geisha Girl II: Long lost photos

Hello there ladies and gents. I hope you are having a pleasant reading week thus far. Enjoy it while you can because we all know how it works, it'll fly by within the blink of an eye and in no time we'll be greeted back to school with dozens of midterms and assignments. For the past few days or so I've been hibernating at home catching up with the Fall 2013 fashion shows. I have been flying through NYFW like an energized bunny, watching shows after shows until the burning sensation in my eyes would reach full throttle. Believe it or not the pain makes the shows that much more pleasurable to watch. It's hard to explain. You'll be getting an update on the shows pretty soon though. Get excited!!

In the meantime I would love to share a few photos I took a while back. Way back. Back into time. Very vague no? If I were a general reader like yourself, by now I'd wonder how old is she talking? my bald self at 9 months? or maybe my chubby 10 yr old self with tight corn roll and a b-ball jersey? Sadly, both happen to be true. My ability to take clear pictures let alone attend a real runway show unfortunately are not. Tough break.

Here's what you've been waiting for; my pictures are not too old or embarrassing for that matter. They were snapped last month when snow storms were merely a thought. With every outfit comes some sort of inspiration, that being on the runway or seen on the street, and today or more accurately last month Dries Van Noten played a large part in the outfit. Their spring 2013 collection was one of the few notable show that just stuck with you. For their print clashing, fuchsia lips and Japanese kimonos I say wow. It just works.

It's without question that my kimono isn't the "real deal" but then again Dries Van Noten didn't invent the Kimono. Really. All they simply did was embellish their silky flowing robes with vibrant floral embroidery and colours. That simple. So blatantly simple. Uhhhggggghhh.. Real or not, I want one of theirs. What are they waiting for? Give me one already. Until then mine will do.

White stripes

Marc Jacob's Spring 2013 collection (Seen Here) parades an assortment of simplistic black&white stripes and checkers. The collection can be most accurately described as "straight to the point" with absolutely no embellishments, no jewellery, no knickknacks of any sort. In my opinion, it is highly unnecessary to sugarcoat something so distinguishably natural, pure and timeless.

Now. I'm going to gently sway into a tangent and take one step back to open Marc's entire history of work. It's evident that his erratic personality and spontaneity mirrors into all thousands of his collections and differentiates him from the crowd of designers. What I like most about our Marc is that he's not quite definable as a designer. One season, his collection will accentuate 1920's farmer flapper girls with boxy drop waist skirts and divert toward Mary Antoinette meets Dr. Seuss the following season. What a truly gifted man. I mean reinterpreting pilgrim shoes on the runway. Who seriously does that? Marc of course.

As the Spring 2013 show proceeded for an entire five minutes (I'm dead serious), it stayed in my mind for much longer than that; I'm talking days, weeks even. I couldn't retract these basic lines and squares shapes out of my mind as if I was a wee toddler learning to distinguish basic shapes for the first time. It truly did a number on me.

So how did I treat this obsession of mine? I did what any normal human being would do and used my big fat platinum card to purchase every single item from the collection. NAY. Marc Jacobs himself personally delivered the entire collection then rightfully refused my chump change...Yeah that's what happened.

Boy oh boy! If only my typing had the ability to control my destiny.
