Casting agents and film directors constantly alter a model and/or actor's perception of what is right and acceptable by saying things like "You may have a little too much junk in that trunk, come back when you're 10 pounds lighter. NEXT!" Well I'm happy to report I have breaking news; The era of skin and bone is no longer with us, may that rest in deep deep grounds. Advertisements from Dove, self esteem and other large corporations have taken the initiative to promote and highlight admirable aspects of natural beauty and normal body weight, some elements that are foreign and irregular in the fashion industry. Sporadic appearances from healthier weight models have planted their flag in editorial spreads and runway shows. These exciting current events are slowly taking a toll in the industry. Next hit of breaking news: Big shot skinny folk in the fashion industry devour Big Macs like it ain't no thang.
As the fashion industry and celebrity scene of la la land (I mean, LA) intertwine as one mega mass consuming feed of Isabel Marant this and Givenchy that (our Zara and H&M), young girls and boys from around the globe desire what these people have and how they appear. Sure, we all glance at online celebrity websites and desperately want Miley Cyrus' Proenza Schouler bag, which most likely was handed to her from the designers themselves but then you come to realization you can't sing and/or dance, though you can do an inspiring truffle shuffle on a good day. Can I have my bag now? My point is human beings always want what they can't have. There is a fine line between wanting and nonsensically purchasing something out of your price range. Just because I've always admired Miu Miu leather rose mules from 4 seasons ago doesn't mean I'm going to take out my credit card and purchase them second hand on ebay for $700, can I get a heck yeah? Maybe it has to do with the fact that my credit card balance is $500 or just maybe my savvy logic is telling me I'll find similar knock offs for 1/8th the price at a lower quality store. And my friend, that is how you play the game.
As some people yearn for the elite and out of reach garments, others desire the physique of models and celebrities under these clothes, or better still both. A lot of young girls look up to these models and actresses, believing this is the right way to look. You wonder why? Mass sums of people from LA and fashion capitals treats a size 2 as the norm and size 6 as damn she phat. There is nothing wrong with a little meat on the body as long as you are healthy and exercise regularly, and of course lay off the fried food. Naturally skinny people have the luxurious pleasure of eating without gaining any weight, that is good. If not, please eat. Think of the large variety of multicultural food offered in the great city of Toronto. Ahhhhhhhhhhh, now you hungry?
Let's face it, human beings are meant to have irregular shaped bodies. How else does one explain the notion of caricatures? I guess it is plain simple then, take pride in what you have. Now, before I bid you adieu I'd like to give you a fair warning as you might just take offence in the name of crop tops. I'm sure when I say crop top, you say high wasted anythang, crop top? Yes, you chanted. In spirit of my "love your body, love yourself" post today, the cheesy title of my non-existent novel, for the past while I've been accustomed to baggy pants with your average cropped shirt as if I was the forth fictional TLC group member. YES!
